The Sports Minister, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, and the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye joined fans that came for the ceremony to enjoyed their time despite the heavy downpour that made the first half very difficulty for good football.
The National Sports Commission brought in popular pop music stars, Ice Prince Zamani and Olamide, to thrill the fans.

The Federal Government of Nigeria approved the contract for the construction of the National Stadium complex and Games Village on July 18, 2000.
The stadium was constructed to host the 8th All Africa Games which took place in October 2003.
The 60,491 seater ultra modern multipurpose sports complex has been tagged by many as one of the greatest architectural landmarks in the city of Abuja.
