The two Manchester teams were stunned this afternoon, as they both suffered shock defeats in the league.
Both clubs came head to head last weekend in an entertaining derby, which City won comfortably 4-1, but it was completely different this Saturday. City had taken a first-half lead against Aston Villa, thanks to a Yaya Toure goal, but Villa fought back and equalised through El Ahmadi in the second half. Dzeko’s header restored City’s lead again, before Bacunaand Weimann gave the home side all three points.
At Old Trafford, the opening half ended goalless, but Amalfitano’s composed finish gave West Brom the lead. Wayne Rooney saw his free-kick creep in as United threatened to turn the screw, but it was Berhaino who had the final word, with a super strike from the edge of the box, as David Moyes’ men suffered their second successive defeat in the league.
In other games, Osvaldo and Lambert gave Southampton a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace, while Jordon Mutch grabbed the winner as Cardiff City beat Fulham 2-1. Hull City took all three points against West Ham, courtesy of Robert Brady’s penalty.
