Headies 2014: Full Report and List of winners

This year the Headies was set to take place, Sunday December 14, 2014 at 8 PM. However, the show did not start until 11:42 PM, Nigerian time and ended past 4 AM. Honestly, I do not even know where to start. I expected a lot more from the Headies. The promotion was much better than the actual show.  I mean we expected African time, but you guys barely missed December 14. Throughout the entire show there were guest walking around the front of the stage, talking, and carrying on.But, let me just leave that alone.  Twitter nonetheless was more than amusing, actually it was hilarious. Twitter has no chill or cut cards.

The audio and visual production, was certainly not the best. The lighting was poor, and even when they focused on the crowd you could not see them at most times. Question, I have is.. Why are the crowds always so dry at Nigerian award shows? Nobody forced you to come, so why are you acting like  it’s by force. Live a little or stay at home. Christ.

The pre-show consisted of live red-carpet interviews, video footage from the heads photo shoots, and random music videos. At a certain point, I honestly doubted this show was even going to take place.

Cynthia Morgan was probably the first entertaining performance. She was just like a boss with the ceo-dancers behind her. Tiwa Savage twerked on Patoranking during her performance, which raised many eyebrows, considering she’s married. But hey, it was just a performance! K-Cee came out with police officers and wheel barrows and a live band, which was pretty entertaining. Oritse Femi, snuck in a performance that livened up the entire auditorium… even though he was just supposed to accept his awards. Olamide dedicates award to Lil Kesh says he’s the Rookie of the year! He also said some “Fxck dis shxt”. He clearly did not send for this award show. We heard Jesse Jagz allegedly left and said he didn’t have time for the headies this year. But, that was quickly proven false when he collected his award. Wizkid didn’t even bother showing up to the show, and just like that he did not receive a single award either. Apparently last year he said, “Fxck the headies”, and maybe they felt some type of way about this.

Patoranking won next rated artist and gave a very heartfelt speech about how he came from rags to riches, as a former brick layer and rat poison seller. Twitter quickly took to the timeline to bash Orezi and Skales. These two artist have been in the game for awhile, so the fact that they would insult them by putting them in this category and they still did NOT win.. is nothing less than embarrasing. Their next years will be better though. Headies, overall need to hire a new video production crew, because they were COMPLETELY OFF. However, some of the live attendees disagreed and said it wasn’t as bad as twitter and everyone watching from their live feed thought it was. Sips tea…it was bad. Wizkid

Quick question… why don’t our naija artist like performing live?! Like why are you guys obviously lip syncing or shouting on top of a track. It makes fans question whether these artist are actually talented or is it all just auto tune? Do better. Shoutout to Davido, Oritse Femi and Yemi Alade for actually singing live.

Oh, and did y’all hear Davido shout out his gf? We heard you Davido. Salute. We still want to see pictures to confirm. Perhaps it was the lady in white sitting next to him. Time will tell abi.

Lastly, at 4:18 AM, Nigerian time, P-Square came onto the stage to an almost empty house. Which was sad, due to the poor timing of the award show. However, they are the only performance that completely wowed me and basically everyone. Great execution, live performance, choreographed and the transitions were even on point! Legends showing them how it’s really done.

Basketmouth & Toke Makinwa looked absolutely amazing. Although it took awhile to get the welcome tag line together, they were hilarious throughout and entertaining none-the less.
